Not all who wander want to be found 🍂

Off we Go, to Taupo! 🇳🇿

23 October 2015, Friday

I love using Airbnb because of the personalized touch you get from staying and interacting with hosts. More often, they provide so much more local information and tips you can’t get on the web.

We were told of the Spa Thermal Park which was less than 5 minutes’ drive from their place. A free spot where locals – and few tourists – go to to soak and drown their sorrows.

The gorgeous view from the top of a mini-hill. Pity it was gloomy in the morning.

Apparently you can walk from the thermal park to Huka Falls!

THIEVES – THEY ARE EVERYWHERE.

There were so many things to do/ tourist attractions in Taupo that we had a tough time settling on our choices cause we had to make the drive to Rotorua to stay the next two nights.

Planned the route and decided on these which were along the way:

  • Huka Falls (Free admission)
  • Huka Honey Hive (Free admission)
  • Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland (NZ$32.50/pax)

Huka Falls (New Zealand’s Most Visited Natural Attraction)

Drop-dead gorgeous.

An 11-meter high waterfall, water gushing through the rock face of the mighty Waikato River amounts to 220,000 liters per second! It is insane and the water is crystal clear. A definite must-see if you’re around town.

Such a beauty.

Huka Honey Hive

I used to dislike honey till I went to New Zealand in 2014 and my mom went crazy on the honey purchasing. I love it now – especially drizzling some into my green tea!

Popped by Craters by the Moon just to take a look and take a “WE WERE HERE” shot. We weren’t willing to pay for this since we planned to pay for Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland!

If it has honey, it’s gotta be healthy… right? YUM.

Onward!

Before going straight to Wai-O-Tapu, we stopped along the way to check out Wairakei Natural Thermal Valley and take a peep. Might as well, since we were there.

Funny story: I love animals. I wanted to touch the alpacas so I asked the gentleman if I could touch them. (I WAS BEING POLITE AND WANTED TO ASK FOR PERMISSION)

& the man looked me dead in the eye and said “You can touch them, and you can touch me too.” Oooookay… Not too sure if he was being sarcastic or funny.

Just like the man’s dark humor.

SO PRETTY. (Photo: XM)

I’ll do up a separate post on Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland cause there’s just too many pictures and this’ll become one heck of a lengthy post.

Till then!
